My Approach

I am a person-centred and relational therapist, meaning that I believe in your inherent wholeness

and your own wisdom to move forward in life. Life can be really tough and all of us do our best to survive and live well, sometimes though we can get stuck or find that a way we used to cope, is now causing us more pain and struggle. This is when therapy can really help!

In DMP, I will accompany you as you explore your inner and outer worlds, helping to support you through difficulty to recover your gifts, strengths and resources. This might look like talking, moving, creating or just being together. My approach is empathic and centres compassionate acceptance as the key element in creating change.

"The curious paradox is that when I accept myself just as I am, then I can change." Carl Rogers

Before training to be a therapist, I trained as an artist and I incorporate other creative approaches within my work such as music, art-making, play and drama interventions.

*You do not need to have any creative "talent" or experience to benefit from DMP. All humans are creative and expressive beings!

My experience:

  • autism and neurodiversity

  • addiction (including experience of parental substance use)

  • anxiety and low mood

  • bereavement and loss

  • carers

  • eating difficulties

  • experience of abuse/neglect

  • low self-esteem

  • psychosis

  • trauma

  • sexual/relational difficulties

What is Dance Movement Psychotherapy (DMP)?

DMP is a creative therapy which helps people to integrate mind and body, express emotion and encourage social and psychological development.

In DMP, we use somatic (embodied) awareness, non-verbal communication and expressive movement, alongside talking, to help clients to come to greater self awareness, acceptance and to begin to make positive change. Movement and creative interventions are always provided as an invitation and therapy is created together with the client, moving at a pace which is right for them.

Our bodies hold our life experience, by moving the body we can begin to move the mind too! Sometimes words alone are not enough to express what's inside us, DMP offers a way to express and connect more deeply, discovering new ways of being through creativity.

“To find a new world, maybe you have to have lost one. Maybe you have to be lost. The dance of renewal, the dance that made world, was always danced here at the edge of things, on the brink, on the foggy coast.”

― Ursula K Le Guin
